TWAS Sept. 28

Hello Everyone, I hope you've all had a great week; I honestly can't believe it is Friday.  It's only the end of September and already we need more minutes in our days! We had a fantastic Terry Fox run; the weather was perfect and it was great to have some families and Dr. George students out there cheering us on! Thanks also to those that were able to make it out to the family picnic; it was such a lovely way to spend a lunch hour. For those that weren't able, we'll try for another in the spring. This week in math, we working with movement and sound patterns (so much fun) and have been working on using math tools and showing our thinking when answering math problems.  We worked on the following math problems today and it's a very tricky one so if you have time over the weekend it would be worth a review: In January I wore red shoes. In February I wore blue shoes.  If this is a repeating pattern what colour will my shoes be in June.  (providing the chi

TWAS September 21

Hello Everyone, It was great that so many people were able to fit "meet the teacher" into their busy schedules.  I know that it was very busy and there wasn't a lot of time to connect individually, so please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like a more in-depth conversation about your child's learning. I did email the presentation and a copy of our weekly schedule; if you didn't receive it please let me know so that I can re-send. It looks like Wednesday's weather might just be okay for our family picnic!  We are planning to leave the school at 11:15 and the plan is to be back just prior to the end of lunch (12:00 ish). Please bring available siblings :) Next Friday is our Terry Fox run and the office will be collecting 'Toonies for Terry' all week. The children will have an opportunity to run their toonies to the office each morning after attendance. We should be back on track with our TWAS letter writing next Friday but here are

Hello Everyone, I hope your weeks went well and you are staying warm on this very chilly September Friday! The students were great little participants in our archaeology program today.  The archaeology team brought in some worksheets for the children but they are really designed for slightly older students.  So .  . . I've sent them home with the students to give you an idea as to what the program was about, and as a starting point for some continued conversations about discovery archaeology (which is what the actual name of today's program was, not dinosaur archaeology, because, as Mr. Nathan told us, that would be paleontology!  I was wondering what 'dinosaur archaeology' was going to look like and I'm still not sure where title came from — haha!) Thank you a million times over to the parent volunteers who were able to help out and make this program possible for us! Dates to Remember  Meet the Teacher This Thursday, Sept. 20th, is meet the teacher.  Thi

TWAS (This Week At School) September 7

Hello Everyone, I can't believe it is Friday; what an incredibly fast, but incredibly great, week!  The children are settling in to our routines really well.  In addition to reviewing/learning safety, schedules, routines and expectations we have been really focusing on creating a belonging space where everyone feels cared for and important.  This group is making these lessons very easy :) All of the children wrote TWAS letters to an adult or adults in their lives and these letters went home in the communication folders today.  Consent forms also went home; if you didn't get them please let me know and I'll make sure to forward them to you.  I'd like to send out a huge thank you to parent council for providing us with a delicious and very thoughtful treat Thursday morning.  We really enjoyed the thoughtful gesture.   Just a reminder that this upcoming Friday the 14th is Dinosaur Archaeology.  It is an in-school program that will run from 8:30am until approximatel

First Day of School Message/Allergy alerts

Hello Room 73 Families, What a wonderful first day we had.  The children were so kind and generous with each other and everyone seems to be off to a great start with friends, and getting back into their 'classroom stuff' routines! That said, please don't hesitate to call/email or stop by after school if any of your little ones share concerns or stresses with you.  If anyone is feeling anxious I want to make sure that they are getting the little extra supports that they might need :) I did send home some forms in the communication folders to help me get a little more background information about your child so please fill them out when/if you have time or feel free to call/email. We do have a severe pistachio and cashew allergy, and a peanut allergy to be aware of so if you could just double check any nut bars to make sure that they don't have these ingredients we would really appreciate it! I will be posting a TWAS (This week at school) blog each Friday; as it is
