TWAS Sept. 28
Hello Everyone,
I hope you've all had a great week; I honestly can't believe it is Friday. It's only the end of September and already we need more minutes in our days!
We had a fantastic Terry Fox run; the weather was perfect and it was great to have some families and Dr. George students out there cheering us on!
Thanks also to those that were able to make it out to the family picnic; it was such a lovely way to spend a lunch hour. For those that weren't able, we'll try for another in the spring.
This week in math, we working with movement and sound patterns (so much fun) and have been working on using math tools and showing our thinking when answering math problems. We worked on the following math problems today and it's a very tricky one so if you have time over the weekend it would be worth a review:
In January I wore red shoes. In February I wore blue shoes. If this is a repeating pattern what colour will my shoes be in June. (providing the children with a year calendar or writing out the months for them will set them up with a good math 'tool' in the answering of this question).
In Language Arts we worked with a variety of texts that explored belonging, celebration of culture, generosity and "the Wondrous Nature of All." We also learned to work with dictionaries and thesaurus's to help make our sentences beautiful and 'juicy'. "The great dictionary race" was a fun way for the children to get to know their way around a dictionary!! The teamwork was spectacular, by the way.
Our hot and cold temperature unit continued with measuring temperatures around the school and some beginning discussions about seasonal changes. Also beginning, is our study of Alberta. The concepts of community, city, province and country are a little tricky but the ideas were flowing and lots of good insights were shared. The students really enjoyed learning about Alberta's flag and took such good care with their drawings.
Phys-ed was really focused on pace, endurance and perseverance in preparation for our big run today, and music was extra special because we were able to welcome Mrs. McBride back from maternity leave.
Just a reminder that Monday is Orange Shirt Day, for those that wish to participate.
Please enjoy the beautiful Terry Fox art work that the children made this week and have a wonderful weekend.

without given the calendar, Molly's answer is RED, because January starts with J, February starts with F; June start with J, so that it should be red shoes.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh great answer. I love that you used the beginning letters — so creative!
