TWAS October 26

Hello Everyone, It was so wonderful to be able to meet with so many of you during conferences!   Fifteen minutes goes by so fast so please let me know if anything has come to mind that we didn’t get a chance to discuss.   I am also more than happy to schedule a secondary meeting if anyone feels that they would like a more in-depth conversation. Picture retakes:  Monday October 29th Here are the basics of the week: Language Arts Working on our personal writing goals while answering the following writing prompt question:  If I could do absolutely anything this weekend . . .    Editing our good copy insulator writing, typing it into Google Docs, downloading and uploading into IRIS o    Your child can log into his/her IRIS account through the Cranston School website. Hello Everyone, I hope you've been able to get out and enjoy this amazing weather!! We've definitely taken advantage of it whenever we could this week.  Phys-ed was outside, we were able to collect the rest of our 'nature' for our art (enjoy the amazing creations below; they will be printed off so that they can become visual journal covers) enjoy grade 2 team building today at Rock Park, and return our nature to nature.  There is too much to put into the blog so I'll let your little ones tell you about our in-class picnic, Club Friday, Music, Phys-ed, buddies and everything else that I don't get down here, but I do want to put out a HUGE shout out to your children as they were amazing in our two fire drills this week; way to go team! Science:  The most amazing insulators were brought into 73!!! Way to go everyone.  Everyone's was original and super cool and gave us tons to study, reflect on and think about.  Thank you so so so much for all the

Hello Families of 73, I hope everyone had a good week :) It's been an exciting week at Cranston; of course stuffy day was a very exciting event for these little ones and the children have also been working on team-building skills with the parachute in gym class this week, which is always a favourite activity. Thanks so much to the families who were able to get some insulating devices/thermoses in early so that the children could share ideas and engage in some insulation brainstorming discussions! There is no wrong way to create these devices so have fun, enjoy the process and we'll be really excited to see what happens on Monday! As we come to the end of our Temperature Science unit, the children have been learning how to take science notes as we tie our learning together with some informative video clips.  We will be starting our magnet unit next week, so please point out any magnets that you happen to see during your weekend activities. We have been extending our ma

Hello Everyone, I hope you all had a good, safe, snowy week and are ready to settle in for a nice long weekend.  The children were very excitedly sharing about all kinds of family fun that they have planned! We actually did enjoy the snow this week. We have been learning about paragraph writing and thought that "how to build a snowman" would make for an excellent topic.   We thought we should have a recent first-hand experience to write about so off we went, a few times, to try to build one.  What we learned was that building a snowman is not as easy as it might seem.  You need the right equipment (boots, waterproof mittens, carrots for noses), team work and, most importantly, the right kind of snow.  A few of the students did finally get one built during yesterday's afternoon body break.  We discovered that as the afternoon sun warms the snow (a temperature science connection for us) it becomes sticky enough to use for snowman building :) We also continued with Da
