TWAS February 13

Hello Everyone,

Thank you so much for all of the wonderful treats and thoughtful Valentine's that were brought in to share; we had such a lovely Valentine's/100 day!!

We enjoyed quite a few different 100/Valentine's themed learning activities, one of which was our beautiful beautiful 100 word kindness Wordle — thank you so much to our generous and thoughtful parent volunteer who built it for us. We love it! Enjoy the picture below, along with your children's quotes about our week.  I've also posted some short subject summaries beneath; please don't hesitate to email if you'd like elaboration or if you have questions.

“In gym we played ringette.  Ringette was awesome!!!” K. C.

“We are doing ringette in gym and it was really really fun.  We versed each other!”  K. M.

“We made 100 cube structures.  I made a rocket ship with my classmate.  It had an actual working steering system!”  C. D.

“This week at school we had a 3 minute math drill.  We did subtraction and addition. It made me feel happy J!” N. K.

“In language arts we first wrote sentences and then we wrote happiness words and put them on the bulletin to make a Wordle” H.S.

“We did the bags for Valentine’s Day at school.  We put some stuff into them for Valentine’s Day”  L.M.L

“In science we checked the jars and the purple on is the lowest.  It does not have a lid.  The blue one stayed the same because it has a lid”
K.B.

“I built a 100 cube structure.  It was awesome. I loved it!”  D. B.

“We made a 100 cube structure.  We tried making a window out of 100 blocks and we just had enough.  Our back up plan was a charger bug!”  C. T.

“So for new games we learned how to play addition four in a row. We also learned a make-15 hexagon game.  That is all.” M. Y.

“We did our Valentine’s Bags. I did a rainbow and hearts. It made me happy J” K.M.

“In science we did evaporation.” C. C.

“We learned how to play making 15. It was new for me.  I had never played it before and I liked it” D. T.

“In art this week we are making Valentine’s bags.  On mine I made a few hearts and glued one on and they were red.”  M.A.

“In science we did evaporation. If you keep water in the open for a long time the water starts to go in the air.”  R. K.

“In science we did an open jar and a closed jar. In science we checked our jars.  The open one was lower that the blue one which was the closed one.”  E. P.

“We introduced a new game called four in a row.  We play it by rolling 2 dice and whatever number those dice add up to we have to cover up with a block.  I’m finding my addition easy.”  H. H.

“I hope you had a good week!!!”  C. L.

100 word Wordle happiness wall poem:

Math:  We are working on subtraction to 20 and 2 digit addition with regrouping.  We also continue to work with math problems, mental math skills and math in our environment.

LA: We are blending spelling words and dictionary pics to create fun and engaging sentences, that follow conventions.  We are also learning about problems/main ideas in stories: where they occur and how they move the story forward. We read daily in Dear and in Daily 5.

Science:  We are finishing up our liquids unit and will be moving into boats and buoyancy.

Socials:  We are studying Nunavut.  This week we looked at the flag, and learned why an Inukshuk is so important to arctic life that it is the centre of the flag. We also looked at location, climate and landscape, and began to discuss how these things influence lifestyle, culture and critical place of Elders and knowledge keepers in this land.

Art: In this short week, we incorporated some art into our Valentine's celebrations and math.

It was a blue week so hopefully things warm up enough that your little one's can get outside and enjoy some much deserved free play!!!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone (Monday is family day so we are not back until Tuesday) — thank you all for all that you do to support your children and set us up for such fantastic days together!

Mrs. McArthur
