TWAS March 22

Hello Everyone, Happy Spring Break! Thank you so much for getting all of the field trip forms returned so quickly!  I hope all of you and your families are able to enjoy some wonderful moments together over the next week; the children have been such creative and hard workers.  I am sure they are very ready for a little break time! We have fun experiences planned for the final chapter of grade 2.  In addition to Leighton, we have an art specialist coming to our class to teach us a special technique to create beautiful Acadian themed pieces.  We also hope to do a little research in the beautiful Fish Creek landscape, and much of our math measurement unit outside.  I'll leave you with a quick summary and upcoming info about our studies and wish you all a wonderful week! Math:   Math problems/regrouping addition, and introducing regrouping subtraction.  Geometry review (cylinders/sphere/cube/cone/pyramid/circle/square/rectangle/triangle). A math problem from this we

Hello Everyone, It feels like spring might just be on its way . . . I can't wait to start moving more of our lesson time outside!  It was a great week.  We can't thank the swimming volunteers enough! I also really want to thank each and every family; the students were so incredibly independent, polite, respectful and enthusiastic.  Thank you so much for all that you did to set these little ones up for a successful swimming week.  It was so much fun and I think it was a really valuable experience!! On top of our busy swimming schedule, here is a summary of the rest of our learning: Math:   Geometry, 2 digit regrouping and subtraction. This eye opener math problem was created by one of our students; it's a good one so I thought I'd share (thank you E.P.) If each student in our class has three gold coins for his/her leprechaun trap, then how many coins do the students have all together? Science:  Boats and buoyancy Make that penny float! Hello Everyone, It was lovely to see some of you at literacy night and for those who weren't able to make it, I've inserted a couple of literacy poster ideas; one of which explains in a little more detail the family mail centers that the students brought home today! Just a reminder that swimming is Monday for us.  It is easiest if your child wears his/her swimsuit under his/her clothes and then brings under-clothing in a plastic bag that can later be used for wet swimsuits and towels.   Today we enjoyed winter sports day, thanks so much parent council for the hot chocolate treat. The children opted out of quotes today.  They really wanted to finish up some art projects (pictures below), and have fun with some Jeopardy science/socials review.  They did write beautiful TWAS letters though so enjoy! Here's a quick summary of this week's activities: Math: Geometry/Geometry stations.  tangrams geoboards 3D object construction mold 3D objects We also conti

March 7th is literacy night:  6:00 - 7:00 It seems like we've fit so much into this short week; enjoy the quotes and for more information I have put short summaries below.  “This week at school we have been learning about Ted Harrison. In art we drew about the arctic circle.”   D.T. “In science we did boats and buoyancy with clay.   It was so cool!” H.
