Hello Everyone, Wow — it is seriously smoky out there.  Hopefully it will blow out as quickly as it blew in and you can all get out to enjoy some beautiful summer-like weather!! We were able to get outside and enjoy some gym games with our little buddies earlier this week, and the children enjoyed outdoor lunch picnics all week long.  It's such a beautiful time of year. We had so much fun inline skating Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Our instructor was great! It is incredibly amazing how much everyone learned over 4 lessons!! They did so well, and their core balance and strength increased drastically from one session to the next.  I'm sure more than a few will be asking to do some inline skating this summer, and I'd say they definitely have the basic skills to begin to enjoy the sport outside on your amazing Cranston paths, and beyond! Ants and worms were the focus of this week's science study.  We learned some pretty big and kind of cool new science words: my

Hello Everyone, I hope everyone had a great week!  We had a wonderful week.  The weather was mostly beautiful so we were able to get outside for some learning, and had lots of phys-ed fun in the big field.  I have to admit that I let my competitive side take over a little bit and may have run a little too hard in Capture the Chicken. I'm a little soar, but it was so worth it : ) It did start off a little rainy early in the week though which ended up being perfect for an unexpected worm exploration.  We went out for sidewalk chalk math, and ended up coming back out with magnifying glasses.  We were able to get a good look at these special critters, without bothering them . . . too much.  We also continued with a study of bees and flies.  Who knew flies were so cool, and kind of beautiful too, we think.  We've begun to learn a little bit more about Acadians.  Food, music and culture seem to be very important.  More to come on that next week.  This week's art was aligned

Hello Everyone, I can't believe that we are at the May long weekend! As we're moving into our last units, we'll soon be starting to think about some fun review and tying it all together with some final projects.  It's the time of year where everyone is full of energy, ready to move and enjoying outside learning whenever possible.  Fortunately, up until the today, the weather has been more cooperative and we've been able to get outside a lot more. It's a great time of year for learning! Thank you so much volunteers, who were able to come in and help us with our beautiful Artfelting projects. It was wonderful having you with us for the morning, and the art is beautiful. As always we couldn't have done it without you! We enjoyed our first session of inline skating on Monday.  Everyone was incredibly independent and brave!  I was very proud of all of the students.  Our next three sessions are in the last week of the month: May 27, 29 and 30th. While inline

Hello Everyone, I hope your week's are all going well and you are looking forward to a beautiful Mother's Day weekend.  I know your little ones are very excited for the 'big day!' The last couple of days have been so beautiful; it's been wonderful to enjoy more time outside. We've been able to do some math and all of our gym out of the classroom; we also enjoyed a lunchtime picnic on Thursday.  It's been wonderful!  Hopefully the forecasted weekend warmth will get more little critters out and about so we can do some outdoor science exploration next week.  We did learn about the butterfly cycles, this week, and our classroom butterflies are supposed to be arriving on Monday.  We're very excited about that. Socials: We are looking at industry in Nova Scotia, in addition to learning about some Nova Scotia traditions and history.  We will continue to look at the fishing industry next week and our Artfelt art is also lighthouse based, which will be so f

Hi Everyone, I hope you've all had a great week! Wow — we had some fantastic Arctic Animal and Passion Project presentations this week!  Way to go students.  We're really looking forward to some more next week! We've been having fun with our learning here in Cranston School but really really want the weather to start cooperating so that we can be having even more fun with our learning outside of the school!! Our math and science units (measurement and critters) really lend themselves to outdoor exploration so here's hoping for some spring sun and warmth next week : ) This week in measurement we worked with different units of measurement, and discussed standard units of measurement.  With our little buddies, we used beanbags to mark our long jumps in the hub and link, and then figured out how to use 1 block, 1 ruler or 1 math book to measure our jump distances.  Likewise we learned to compare the length of an item when it is straight or bent (pipe-cleaners, aka &
