TWAS Dec. 6 and Christmas Concert

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all having a good week; I know that it is getting busier by the second so am also hoping you get some time to rest and relax a little bit!  There are still some wicked colds going around so please let your little ones know that we missed those who are away and are excited to have them back with us when they are feeling better!

Our concert is this Wednesday; 2 tickets per family went home with the children Wednesday night.  For those of you who requested extras to be put on the waitlist, you won't receive those tickets until the office has numbers as per who won't be attending.  On that note, if you aren't able to come can you please let the office know so that they can forward you tickets to those on the waiting list.

Thank you also so very much to the families who were able to shop for the Christmas bags.  What thoughtful and generous collections!!  We will start bagging next week.

This week in math we are continuing to work with our mental math skills, using friendly numbers, and committing more math facts to memory in our Hot Seat game (I'll let your little one explain that).  We also worked on subitizing skills; this can be practiced easily with any game that requires dice or cards.  See if they can recognize the number without counting.

Language Arts continues to be focused on descriptive writing.  We have started visualizing and describing our creature creations that will go to the Dr. George students. We also completed a written response to the question if you were a snowman what would you do at night? Some really fun ideas came out of this.  In spelling this week we learned about 'ight' families: night, light, sight etc.

We are wrapping up our Alberta study and the children will be researching fun facts about Alberta next week before we move into our Nunavut studies.  Feel free to share ideas with you child.

Finishing up with science, the children will be designing magnet games.

We have really enjoyed our current art investigations.  This week we analyzed the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and Little Blue Horse by Franc Marz. They loved trying to figure out why the Mona Lisa was so famous and why Franc Marz made the horse blue . . . and many of them are very excited to learn more about art.  There have been many requests for independent research studies; I have suggested that they do these studies with an adult at home (we will continue in school as well; our goal is one a week) so that they can have a little extra direction and stay on kid-friendly sites.

We also added to our mobiles; they are looking so cool!

The children have also been working extremely hard learning their Christmas concert songs and lines.  They took home the words to the songs and are encouraged to engage in some weekend practice, if time permits!

Thanks so very much to the parents who were able to pop in with helping hands this week; we so love having you with us!!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone,

See you on Monday :)

Mrs. McArthur
