TWAS October 26
Hello Everyone,
It was so wonderful to be able to meet with so many of you
during conferences! Fifteen minutes goes
by so fast so please let me know if anything has come to mind that we didn’t
get a chance to discuss. I am also more
than happy to schedule a secondary meeting if anyone feels that they would
like a more in-depth conversation.
Picture retakes: Monday October 29th
Here are the basics of the week:
Language Arts
- Working on our personal writing goals while answering the following writing prompt question: If I could do absolutely anything this weekend . . .
- Editing our good copy insulator writing, typing it into Google Docs, downloading and uploading into IRIS
o
Your child can log into his/her IRIS account
through the Cranston School website. Their username/password is the same as
they use to log into the school computers.
o
Reading this week:
§
We focused on fluency: smooth reading that
focuses on punctuation to inform expression.
We pretended that we were reading someone a story and wanted to
entertain.
§
Popcorn words.
I would call out a ‘tricky’ word on the page and the students would race
to try to find it.
Math
·
Addition and subtraction with the number line
·
Attention to place value
o
Representing numbers with 10 rods and units
o
Math problems such as the following
·
We were
out for recess and it is time to come in.
Ethan went to use the washroom.
Damon went for a drink of water and Molly was at the lost and found. How many students are still outside?
Science
·
We began work with our magnets inquiry stations.
The children have science groups and each person in that group is responsible
for a job that will help the group be successful in their inquiry
stations.
·
A challenge:
How many uses for magnets can you find in your world this weekend?
Socials
·
Continuing our work on our Alberta books, the
children researched to find as many Alberta cities as they could. We then tried to find them on a map of
Alberta, and have added some of them to our books.
·
We discovered that Alberta’s Bird is the Great
Horned Owl. This week’s art focus was
learning how to draw this bird. They
look great!!
We also went on a word search quest with our little buddies
and learned a little bit about the potentials of our brains and what we can accomplish
with growth mindset.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
See you on Monday 73 J
Mrs. McArthur
