TWAS December 14th
Hi Everyone,
I hope you all had a great week; it was wonderful to see so many of you at the concert performances. The children put on such a great show; I was very proud of their great big voices. There were so many songs/lines to learn!! Well done 73 :)
Next week looks like it is going to be lots of fun: caroling in the gym, Movie/PJ day Thursday afternoon, a Christmas scavenger hunt with our grade 1 buddies, and Constable Mattice is coming to the class Tuesday morning to teach a lesson about 'bucket filling' with acts of kindness. Because Constable Mattice is in Tuesday morning, I switched library to Monday morning. Squished in between all of these fun activities will be descriptive writing, Character studies, math skills/problem solving, magnet games, Nunavut/Iqaluit introduction and embedding personality into art . . .
Report cards will go home with the children on Wednesday. This students have worked so hard since September and I am so proud of all of their many accomplishments; I'm sure you will all be very happy as well.
This week, we've been working on friendly number math problems and had our first math drill. In the New Year we will begin to individually graph our drills to watch the steady increase through to June. The children loved the first math drill and are exited that learning just one new math fact a week will make their graphs go up :)
A math problem from this week:
Santa's reindeer need new shoes for Christmas. How many new reindeer shoes does Santa need?
In art we did a reflection on Vincent van Gough's The Starry Night and we also began to look at perspective in visual art. Our Thursday Art project was a bird's eye view snowman. They turned out beautifully.
In health we learned about food groups serving sizes, and were very impressed to see how many servings most of us actually got in at breakfast and morning snack!
Our language arts focus continues to be on descriptive writing, and close reading practice/pulling evidence for the text to support inferences.
The children wrote TWAS letters today, so I'm hoping they can fill you in on some of the many details of our week that I am certainly missing!
I know that everyone will have a fantastic last week of school and I wish you all a wonderful holiday break that is filled with loads of giant belly laughs :)
Happy New Year everyone — I'll see you in 2019 ❤️
