TWAS February 22

Hello Everyone,

I hope you've all had a good week!

Today was 'day zero' meaning we had an assembly and Club Friday, so . . . the rest of our morning was fast and furious!  Your little ones still managed to get their TWAS letters done in an incredibly short period of time.  We also managed to get some quotes in:

“In math we did regrouping. It was awesome” R.K.

“In math we did subtraction and adding.”  K. B.

“We did sledge hockey and we were having partners.  We were trying to score and it was fun.” K. M

“Dear parents in gym in we did sledge hockey.  In Language Arts we did really cool art!” H. S.

“This week at school all the students brought money to buy popcorn.”

“In science we did an umbrella experiment and covered an umbrella in waterproof and absorbent stuff.”  C.D.

“In science it looks like we did a celery experiment.  I was away.” D. B.

“In math we did adding and subtraction.”  C. C.

“So we did buddies.  We, I mean I, me, was scared but we did the settings with them. A setting is a time or a place.  It was fun.  That is all.  The end.  OK”  M.Y.

“In math I did new math problems and they were really fun!” E.P.

“We did math drills.”  H. H.

“In math stations we learned new math problems.  At the math games I learned new fun math games.  With the teacher I learned about new addition.  That’s what we did in math stations!”  D. T.

“In buddies we walked our buddies to their club.” K. M.

Here is what we focused on this week:

Math:  2 digit addition (with regrouping), subtraction, and problems such as the following:

Language arts:  We learned about settings in story (time and place) and did some exploring to see how authors create these settings in text.  We also worked on our editing skills this week.  This is the editing checklist that we are beginning to use for our writing:

Socials:  We are continuing our study of an arctic community.  We learned about permafrost and the significance of "light" in Nunavut.

Science:  We wrapped up our liquids unit with an umbrella building experiment where we tested a number of materials to see if they were waterproof or absorbent.  We are also watching celery "suck up" coloured water.

Art:  We began a Ted Harrison based art project. We are taking some risks with the method (mixing glue and paint for our lines) and are excited to see what happens when we add paint on Monday.

It was a great week;  they're such a fun group of children!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

See you Monday 73,

Mrs. McArthur
