TWAS April 5

Hello Everyone,

Happy Friday!  I hope you all had a good week and are enjoying some more spring-like weather.

Thank you so much everyone who was able to send in some boat making supplies.  We are going to begin our planning and building next week; we're hoping to float on Friday! A lot of the children have asked if they can make boats at home as well — absolutely!!  Feel free to send any 'home' models in for a float on Friday.

The children have begun an independent Arctic Animal inquiry and we will begin our crawling and flying animals science unit next week or the week after. Drawing these spectacular creatures was our art focus this week.  I've encouraged the children to practice drawing their animal over the weekend, if they have time, so that they are ready to make their good copy drawings, that will go on their poster board presentations.

In math we have been working on subtraction problems such as this one:

On Sunday I made 20 cookies.  I ate 5 on Monday.  If I ate my last cookie on Friday how many cookies did I eat each day of the week?

We are continuing to work on our story writing and sentence development in Language Arts, and hope to begin puppet theatre constructions in the next couple of weeks as our stories finish up.  Our class's collaborative creation, The Story of Dell, is coming together fantastically. Three of our classmates performed a narrative reader's theatre for Ms. Patton while the rest of us worked on our visualization.  We received some excellent feedback and might even have a finished copy to post next week.

We are going to begin our Acadian unit towards the end of next week so please share any and all family connections, stories and/or artifacts!  We love real-life connections : )

I hope you enjoy the beautiful TWAS letters that went home and have a wonderful weekend,

See you Monday,

Mrs. McArthur
