TWAS May 24th

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone had a great week!  We had a wonderful week.  The weather was mostly beautiful so we were able to get outside for some learning, and had lots of phys-ed fun in the big field.  I have to admit that I let my competitive side take over a little bit and may have run a little too hard in Capture the Chicken. I'm a little soar, but it was so worth it : )

It did start off a little rainy early in the week though which ended up being perfect for an unexpected worm exploration.  We went out for sidewalk chalk math, and ended up coming back out with magnifying glasses.  We were able to get a good look at these special critters, without bothering them . . . too much.  We also continued with a study of bees and flies.  Who knew flies were so cool, and kind of beautiful too, we think.

We've begun to learn a little bit more about Acadians.  Food, music and culture seem to be very important.  More to come on that next week.  This week's art was aligned with socials as well.  We have been learning that fishing is an extremely important industry in Nova Scotia, and lobsters are a big part of this fishing, so we made lobsters in lobster traps.  They turned out so well! Please enjoy the picture below.

Our math focus has been 2 digit subtraction and addition with re-grouping. We are finding that knowing those basic math facts is extremely helpful! We have also started some data analysis and learned a little bit about analogue clocks.  We will continue with those three areas of math study over the next couple of weeks.

This week in poetry we had a very special parent guest share some favourites with us, which was so fun.  We also reflected on experiences and thoughts that were awakened when we touched and smelled different items.  Next week we will be exploring poetic thoughts through experiences with sight, hearing and taste.  We are also working on our character designs for our puppet theatre.  The students are invited to make extra character puppets at home if they have the interest/time.

I saw many beautiful TWAS letters go home in folders/backpacks today, so I will let the rest come from your little ones.  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

See you Tuesday 73,

Mrs. McArthur
