Hello Everyone, I hope you have all had an excellent week and are able to enjoy your families over the weekend : ) We've had a very busy week getting a good start on lots of new units: measurement in math; small crawling and flying animals in science; Nova Scotia in Social studies. Today was also Club Friday and an assembly.   It can be a little scary venturing off to a new 'club' learning space. We've talked about trying out things we might not normally try and giving it our best for three sessions.  There was a lot of fun 'club sharing' during circle at the end of the day and new learning to spread around.  It was a fun day. We're working on time measurement (calendar) and ventured outside to measure our heights with chalk lines and string.  We then measured those strings inside (it was freezing) with popsicle sticks; ask your little one how many popsicle sticks high he or she is. Hello Everyone, I hope you've all had a good week!  Student led conferences are this Wednesday and Thursday, please let me or the office know if you're having trouble booking.  I know the children are very excited to show you what they've been up to!  Unless you are the 4:00 appointment, please come 20 minutes early so that you have time to visit all of the student learning stations.  Because there will be other families in the room when you are at the 'meet with teacher' station, I am happy to re-book for a different day/time if you would like a more private conversation. Hello Everyone, Happy Friday!  I hope you all had a good week and are enjoying some more spring-like weather.  Thank you so much everyone who was able to send in some boat making supplies.  We are going to begin our planning and building next week; we're hoping to float on Friday! A lot of the children have asked if they can make boats at home as well — absolutely!!  Feel free to send any 'home' models in for a float on Friday. The children have begun an independent Arctic Animal inquiry and we will begin our crawling and flying animals science unit next week or the week after. Drawing these spectacular creatures was our art focus this week.  I've encouraged the children to practice drawing their animal over the weekend, if they have time, so that they are ready to make their good copy drawings, that will go on their poster board presentations. Hello Everyone, Happy Spring Break! Thank you so much for getting all of the field trip forms returned so quickly!  I hope all of you and your families are able to enjoy some wonderful moments together over the next week; the children have been such creative and hard workers.  I am sure they are very ready for a little break time! We have fun experiences planned for the final chapter of grade 2.  In addition to Leighton, we have an art specialist coming to our class to teach us a special technique to create beautiful Acadian themed pieces.  We also hope to do a little research in the beautiful Fish Creek landscape, and much of our math measurement unit outside.  I'll leave you with a quick summary and upcoming info about our studies and wish you all a wonderful week! Hello Everyone, It feels like spring might just be on its way . . . I can't wait to start moving more of our lesson time outside!  It was a great week.  We can't thank the swimming volunteers enough! I also really want to thank each and every family; the students were so incredibly independent, polite, respectful and enthusiastic.  Thank you so much for all that you did to set these little ones up for a successful swimming week.  It was so much fun and I think it was a really valuable experience!! On top of our busy swimming schedule, here is a summary of the rest of our learning: Math:   Geometry, 2 digit regrouping and subtraction.
